Small Start

This is my first post to this group.  I finally got around to starting my Traditional Dear Jane.  I have done 8 blocks so far.  My plan is to work concurrently on a 30's Dear Jane, since I'm nuts.  LOL Here are pictures of my blocks.  I hope I did this right.

Second Block

Hi

After a very eventful week with a 48 hour stay in hospital with my 9 year old - appendix operation. Then my 14 year old got tripped at school so back we went to get his broken knee looked at.

Not a lot of time for sewing.

However, "Downton Abbey" episode 2 was on last night. I had A-2 ready to go, but decided the brain needed simplicity and not lots of triangles. So, i went with A-6. A simple one, but its done.

My first post!

This is my first post here :)  I just started my Dear Jane journey this year.  I'm using Deb Strains "Coming Home" fabric line for the whole thing.  Well at least that's how I'm starting out, who knows how I'll finish!!

Here's my first 9 blocks.  I do paper piecing when I can, I love paper piecing.  I don't think I'll ever have this many blocks to show at once again :)

New Janiac joins the group

Hi, I'm Sandi and I blog at Piecemeal Quilts. On a recent post, LynCC commented and let me know about your group, and boy am I glad she did! Not only is there eye candy galore here, I'm hoping that the inspiration and shared struggle will keep me going on my Plain Jane. Yep - "Plain Jane" is the name I've given it because I'm doing it entirely in solids. I chose a cool colorway comprised of blues, greens, purples and grey with a white background. I have the EQ software so here's an illustration of what it should look like:


I started a little over a year ago with the understanding that I'd do three blocks a week. I planned it all out ('cause I'm a planner!) with charts and color placement and degree of difficulty. That lasted a little over a month, then I got to my first applique block. Mmm, applique, not so much. I tried skipping on to another pieced block, but other things happened and I sort of lost my quilting mojo. For eight months I wallowed in the bog of uninspiration, until finally I finished a quilt for my own bed. Finishes are invigorating, aren't they? At our next quilting day, I polished off two Jane blocks, and did another a week later. I also got moving on some other projects, and - woohoo! - the quilting mojo is back! Here's what I have for blocks so far:


Not a lot, just sixteen blocks, but I really like the colors and as long as I keep in mind that this is a (VERY) long term project, I think I'll stay on track. So... thanks for the inspiration, and the opportunity to share my Jane journey with you!

Finally Something to Show

This is the first time I have been able to post some new blocks after I revealed what I started back in 2007.  I had intention of making some of my blocks last month but that didn't happen.  So I stopped all other sewing for an afternoon so I could do what I had planned, and that is to get back to working on my DJ.

First finished blocks.....small progress

Well, after years of procrastination, I have finally begun. A friend who has all her blocks done and took a class from Brenda at Asilomar told me to put a one inch by five inch strip of muslin on the right hand side and a one inch by five and one/half strip on the bottom of each block as I went. But row A requires a 5 1/2 inch on the top also.....and block A-1 requires an additional 6 in. strip on the left hand side. So I precut l69 five by one inch strips, 169 + 26 five 1/2 by one inch strips, and two 6 inch strips. She said it was a tip to greatly facilitate putting them together by doing a little at a time. One other hint she gave me was to make sure I always use a really sharp or new needle. Sure keeps those tiny pieces from getting jammed at the beginning of a seam . I use headers usually and always chain piece.....but it is a good hint. Love working on these although my husband said this quilt certifies me as absolutely NUTS. Here are blocks A-1, A-2, A-5, A-6 ,A-7, A-8.

  I finally found some time to work on blocks this weekend.  Block A-6 will have to be re-done.  I got in a hurry cutting other fabric and detatched one corner.  D-13 was the first time I have done foundation piecing by hand and found that I really enjoyed it.  I plan to use this quilt to work on my handsewing skills.

MY DEAR JANE STITCHES

I make my blocks Paper Piecing technique with about 95%. Arantxa the blog "Mi rinconcillo de Punto Cruz" organized a SAL, which aims to deliver the patterns to make the DJ. I signed up(about five months ago) in the SAL. She sends two patterns monthly to registered bloggers.

A-6 Uncle Homer

Yay finally got around to starting my Dear Jane quilt in civil war reproduction fabrics.

Very happy with the look of this block and so glad I have started the quilt again from scratch.

Went to compare the new block with the old block and in the last 2 days, I have managed to loose (I like to say misplaced) my 14 old blocks.

Loved playing and picking from my beautiful fabrics and I so hope to get another block made very soon.

Another block…….

I am rather keen with these blocks now and its all because of all you lovely ladies spurring me and the others on.

The blog is doing what Dawn and I wanted it to ….create excitement for us Janiacs.

I have done another block and found this one rather easy to do and I pieced the inside of it and then appliqued the outer part on after. This one is B-11 and so that means I got 2 more to go and I have then finished row B.

Hi There!

I started my DJ quilt last year and powered along for awhile, finishing 20 blocks.... Then I came to an abrupt halt.

I'm so glad Vicki and Dawn have started this blog to inspire and encourage us on this DJ journey. I hope it's just what I need to get my fabrics back out and start making blocks again. I have just photographed my finished A row blocks today. Above is A-1, 2, 7 and 6.
These 3 are A-4,5 and 8.
Thanks so much Vicki and Dawn for doing this... I love this quilt and I really enjoy putting the blocks together... It will be great to pick it back up again.

I'm glad to join this Dear Jane blog. I started about two months ago buy buying the book.
I now have finished two blocks.
Every month I visit a Dear Jane Bee at quiltshop Leur.
 I've been there two times now and I love it.
