G-10 Woven Meadow

Thanks everyone for your advice on keeping the last block or not for my quilt. 

Yes it's in the folder for when I put my DJ quilt together.

Today's effort is called Woven Meadows and its G-10 on the block list.

Took me about 2 . 5 hours from start to finish and in this time I had taken a break for some lunch.

Love the fabric I picked.

What Would You Do????

Can you pick what is wrong with this block?

I didn't notice until the block was all finished. Stupid part is I really like the mistake and am torn between using this block or remaking it.

To save you getting up and walking for your book, the centre of the star is meant to be blue not white.

So what would you do??? Leave it or make a new block????

Please let me know by leaving a comment. I will appreciate your opinion.

E progress

 I have finally found some time to tackle a bit of applique so have completed two more blocks. I think I will 'cheat' and start to use my machine a bit more to assemble the blocks and complete the applique by hand, otherwise I will never got this finished!!!!!

Jane's Addicted - May Update

The Jane's Addicted "key", three new blue diamond blocks, and a new (to me) antique top...

My main layout worksheet: this one shows the large "diamond of diamonds."The idea is that blocks with a diamond motif will form a large diamond (all in blues), and the blocks withan "X" motif will form a large X. The other blocks are more or less organized by motif in "trips" but I will probably still do some rearranging. The outer corners will be mostly tans and browns.

Sashing Prep: Method to My Madness

Basket-weave sashing: 5:x1" and 10" x 1"

I'm all done sashing my blocks but I wanted to post this info on how I prepare the blocks and sashing before I start stitching them together. While I used a woven pattern, the same prep would be done for regular sashing, too. Before adding the sashing to each row . . .

• The sashing pieces are cut, seamlines and corners (dots) are marked. The short strips have 4 dots; the long strips have 8 dots. Because I was doing woven sashing, I had short and long strips.
• The seamlines on every block are checked for accuracy. Some applique blocks start out with no seamlines marked at all!

It's painstaking, but it helps control the wonks. Just look at the "migrating seamlines" in the Row K samples below. That pink block just barely had a seam allowance! It was a real nail biter! I remember when I made it. I had not made a block in many months and forgot many little tricks I had learned along the way....like putting a generous seam allowance around the outside of each block. I got all done, realized my error and just groaned. Luckily, I had enough to join it to its neighboring blocks -- just barely. Click the photos to enlarge them.

4.5" x 4.5" template is key to getting the job done.

Note the migrating seamlines (left and right) and a pink nail-biter (center)!

2 more blocks in April

I managed to finish (only) 2 more blocks in April.
First I pieced A-4 Courtney's Stethoscope and added the sashing. I am only missing 2 blocks now in Row A1 and A2, all my other blocks are stitched together, nearly there!

I also finished M-11 Rickshaw on Monday, during swimming lesson. I choose reverse applique for this block rather than piecing all these little diamonds. I need to sew the sashing on this one and add it to the rest of my Row M blocks.

My numbers now are: 117, 7, 0, 2493.
Slow progress but some progress!
