I've finally made my first block.....
I've decided I'm going to start with Row A and work my way along it. Figure if I do that it'll stop me from picking out all the easy (I mean less hard) ones.... making them first then loosing heart when I hit the tough stuff. So... that's A1 done now A2 is looming. I thought I was doing well putting together 28 pieces of fabric into a 5" (unfinished) square. How will I cope with 40... with medication that's how!
I did start DJ last Christmas (2010) day. This is as far as I got....
I don't know what possessed me to cut it out this way. I hand pieced the centre then hid it away to avoid working on the surrounding pieces. Have any of you done it this way? Did it work? I haven't decided if I'll scrap it or not... yet. I'm thinking that a 5" square of background fabric and some applique 'seeds' is more up my street.... except for those darned meeting points that is.
Well..... no one said this was going to be easy.... did they?
Love seeing and taking inspiration from all of your blocks...... keep up the good.... nay GREAT work!
Hugs

Wow! That A1 looks absolutely perfect. I love the fabrics of your first DJ start - hope you don't scrap it. :) I know, though - some of these are real pains, aren't they!? Just think how much more our quilts will mean to us in the end.
I really think these are wonderful and would look just find with my Dear Jane.............smile.
I am not a big fan of appliqué, and am trying to piece where possible. I would keep going with the piecing if I were you - it looks really good so far.........!! Happy sewing.
Good idea to go row by row, I left a few of the applique ones till the end because I didn't like making them. Love the fabric on your first unfinished block, hopefully you will be able to use it.
I did that one with a 5" square and appliqued on top. However, the block I'm working on at the moment (A-10) I'm hand piecing and it's all over the place. We'll see how it turns out. At least doing it by hand you can add any pieces anywhere!
I think that is a great idea. I was tempted to just start with the easy blocks!
I really love your fabric choice for A1, the block looks really beautiful. Would you please let me know what fabric you used for this block and describe the intended color of your completed quilt, i.e. will it be all in pinks or a mix of colours.
