Dear Jane Retreat...
Hey Janiacs, I just got home from the "Dear Jane" retreat in Shipshewana, IN (Amish country) and it was very fun. If you're not familiar with it, it's organized by people on the "Dear Jane" listserv. The retreat fee is only $20 plus the cost of hotel. Seemed like most people shared rooms to save on costs - I mean, conserve funds for fabric shopping - who are we kidding. : ) The format is completely open ended - come and go as you please... very low-key. There's another retreat in April so jump on that list and mark your calendars...
On the last day, when most of the quilters had already cleared out, I took advantage of the empty tables and laid out what I have so far... I am auditioning a sashing fabric candidate here and checking out how all the diamond blocks are shaping up... Miles to go... but still fun to see every thing out in one place.

A Little Late
I should of thought of this a couple weeks ago to post this picture of a quilt I spotted on a bus trip last year. Well if anything maybe someone would like to make one for next year's Halloween. The maker used all different pieces of Halloween fabric. Very clever if you ask me.
Now I, haven't made a block in months. I have been so preoccupied with my first grandchild(s), twin boys. I will finish mine, just not soon.

We're All So Quiet!
I'm know I'm swamped with getting history masters work caught up around family-emergency backups, plus I can't find the latest set of Baby Janes that I prepped for sewing (ARGH!!). So that's why I haven't gotten any Jane sewing done in this long stretch.
I imagine lots of you are busy with holiday and gift projects that need immediate attention. Any other reasons out there for lagging Jane work? ;D
We'll all get back to her as we can. I just wanted to make sure I hadn't been kicked off the roster. Glad to see I'm still here, because I intend to get back to my Janes in the next two weeks.
Hope you're all well and enjoying the new season!

Me multi-tasking so I could have fun answering the door for trick-or-treaters while also getting my essay done in time for the submission deadline. Yep - still have a few boxes to unpack. :P |

Row H finished for August
I am trying to complete a row per month and have managed to reach my goal again for August. I did start out hand piecing all my blocks, but decided I would not finish my quilt until the NEXT century!! I have taken to paper piecing and hand appliqué which has made things a LOT quicker and no doubt much more accurate..............
Anyway, here is row H - sorry about the order..

Jane's Addicted - August Update
Well, it's been a slow summer... But here's what's happened since my last post. A few more blue diamonds and a couple more triangles. I may be moving very slowly on this but I'm still enjoying it every bit as much as I did when I started. Love this quilt.

Red Jane update
Round 2 of our Mother-and-Daughter sewalong is just done, and that means 10 more blocks have been placed in my bin. I had picked out the last 10 blocks with the theme "criss-cross", and all blocks had some kind of an X. Some blocks were easy, some weren't....
In between, I have made four blocks that were not on our list, and have also started on the triangles. I don't think my daughter will make the triangles, so I figured that whenever I felt the urge of making more DJs than on our monthly list, I can make a triangle As you can see, by now I have made three triangles. Two of them are just darling, with appliqued hearts. The triangle to the left was paper pieced while we were on vacation. Don't think I will do to many paper pieced blocks...
The main reason for placing all the blocks on my design wall was to see how the Red Jane would turn out, if I liked it, and if I should have white sashing on the blocks.
I do like it, even more than I had hoped for :-)
Marit has now announced the next ten blocks, with the theme "Diamonds are forever". By the time we are done with these blocks, we will be experts on appliqueing diamonds!

It's exciting to me to look at the chart when we moved to Colorado at the very end of June (which shows it way behind)
compared to today's chart, all caught up:
A couple of weeks ago, several folks asked how I get so many Baby Janes done in a short time frame without devoting 24/7 to them. I'll post about that next time, when I'm back to only having a couple of blocks per post to share.
In the meantime, it's somebody else's turn to share their Jane project. ;D
