Adhesive Thimbles

I just bought them today and have yet to try them.
Has anyone tried the new adhesive thimbles?
Do you like working with them?

Another Row, Another Poem

Jane's quilt is ingenious, inventive, imaginative, impressive, and inspired.

Its impact is immense, illusive, immeasurable.

Immersed in idolization, I (and others) itch to imitate it with an independent interpretation.

Are there imitators in Iceland, Ireland, India, Iraq, Israel, Italy, and Indonesia? Inevitably.

Indeed, it is iconic.

One block done for March!

Phew, just made it to get one done before the end of March! This is C13, Lakota Sioux.

Hopefully I should be able to get a few more done over the Easter break!

And now one triangle

Productive Dear Jane week for me as I finished stitching a triangle that I prepared last month. I now have RS4 Dutch Apron finished:

which takes my numbers to: 114,7,0,2437.
I need to get back to the cutting table to prepare more blocks now.

A few of my Modern Janes

Here is a sampling of blocks that I've completed for my Modern Jane quilt.
I recently started this quilt for a class/club that I'm teaching at a local shop in VA. I created a 13 month structured program for my students to follow along with. The ultimate goal is for everyone to have their quilt tops completed at the end of the program.

Although my local students are starting month #3 of the club, I just started a new blog a few weeks ago sharing my 13 Months of Jane with my online friends. I'm starting at Month #1 for those that wished to start at the beginning. Here is the progress I've made on my Civil War jane as well:

I really enjoy seeing all the beautiful Jane blocks shared in this group!

Back to Jane with one block

I did it! I completed one Dear Jane block this week. I had prepared the pieces for A-10 early in February in the hope to sew it while we were at my Mum's for a few days but I only picked it up this last Sunday. I sew my block over 2 evenings and it is now finished: applique and reverse applique.
I have also added the sashing on A-3 yesterday evening.
I am now at 114,6,0,2426. 55 more blocks to finish the centre and 3 more blocks (A1, A2 and A4) to complete Row A.

A3

I handstitched this block over a year ago. You can read the details here. The fabric in the center was one of my favorites and I used it several times in the quilt. Often, I thought it would have been fun to use one fabric over and over in all the blocks and see how many different ways I could cut the fussycuts.

Starting over......

It's not as bad as it sounds.  I'd only made 4 blocks before I started to doubt that I'm capable of making a Dear Jane quilt.   Still.... I'm on track now and on a roll.    Here are the new blocks I made this week.....

Almost 9 of them (the green one is almost done now).    I'm sticking with making them in the order they appear in the book but they might not be in the same place in the quilt at the end.  Heck...I'm even confident of reaching the end now.

I'm so glad to be here posting about my progress as last week I was thinking I'd better resign my place in this group before I was given the order of the boot for non compliance.   Thanks for giving me time to turn myself around.

If you want to see extra photo's there are more on my blog..... Dilly Dimple

Hope you are all having a good week
See you soon
Josie

I would much rather be making more of these than trimming shrubs!

It's been quite a while since I had any Baby Jane finishes, but several of them are suddenly materializing out of the stack of foundation-piecing that's been creeping along the past few weeks:

It's a Finish - a Block Finish that is!

Finally!  Made another DJ block.  It has been so long, LOL.  Here is I-3.  Almost had to redo - the unfinished size is 5" as the ones in the book are 4 1/2".  I have to make a bookmark with that tidbit in red for the book and keep reminding myself of that.
Your turn, now , to make one.  Look forward to your eye candy.

A Poem for Jane

Rows A-G
Little by little, I'm (hand) sewing together my square blocks...with a woven sashing. It was on Row E that I decided to write something creative for each row....using as many words as I could that started with the same letter as that row. Here are 4 links to the poems for Rows E,   F,  G,   and H.

If you don't want to do the clicks, here's the Row H writing:

Where did it happen?
Hotel?
Hospital?
Hippodrome?
Hinterland?
Himalayas?

Hooey!

How did it happen?
Hoping?
Hovering?
Harping?
Humming?
Hibernating?
Hocus-pocus?
Hypnosis?

Hell no, honey!

Hallowed helping hands?

Hardly!

Here's the humble harvest from the heights of her hasty handstitching habit!
Hail!
Row H
Hip! Hip! Hooray!

A-1 Redraft

This was one of my last blocks. I started out working on random blocks and then later went to the center of the quilt and worked my way out. It is one of many blocks that look one way in the photo of Jane's block and another way in the book's draft. I decided to redraft it. You can read the details here.

More D's and 3 rows joined

I have been busy on DJ again and decided at last to join some rows together. Rows A-C are now joined so I feel like I am getting somewhere at last.
I have also completed some more D blocks and with only 4 to go I should have row D joined on in no time..............
