I'm Aliiiiiive

Thank you so much for not kicking me off the group! We've been frantically packing and rejuvenating the house to get it on the market pursuant to our move from Florida to Colorado. I hadn't touched my machine for at least 6 weeks when I sat down this morning, determined to do *SOMETHING* I could tick off for progress. An easy Baby Jane was exactly what I needed!

The real camera is who-knows-where right now, the iron went all defiant and refuses to heat up, and apparently my hubby put all my cutting mats in the storage unit (gotta go pull the little one back out). So I have a pretty sorry pic to post this month, but here it is:

And, hold on a sec! I see I never reported the last batch that I sewed up before the Moving Madness took over my whole life. So here's a string from a couple months ago:

Four F's for the start of winter!!

As it is now officially winter here I have been spending a bit of time sewing and here is this weekend's result. I have also started an Around The World Bee on Flickr with a friend in New Zealand. We have 16 members so far and are looking for a few more before we start, so if you are interested in something else between Dear Jane blocks, feel free to join us at:

New Janiac joins the group

Hi, I'm Sandi and I blog at Piecemeal Quilts. On a recent post, LynCC commented and let me know about your group, and boy am I glad she did! Not only is there eye candy galore here, I'm hoping that the inspiration and shared struggle will keep me going on my Plain Jane. Yep - "Plain Jane" is the name I've given it because I'm doing it entirely in solids. I chose a cool colorway comprised of blues, greens, purples and grey with a white background. I have the EQ software so here's an illustration of what it should look like:

Plain Jane 1
I started a little over a year ago with the understanding that I'd do three blocks a week. I planned it all out ('cause I'm a planner!) with charts and color placement and degree of difficulty. That lasted a little over a month, then I got to my first applique block. Mmm, applique, not so much. I tried skipping on to another pieced block, but other things happened and I sort of lost my quilting mojo. For eight months I wallowed in the bog of uninspiration, until finally I finished a quilt for my own bed. Finishes are invigorating, aren't they? At our next quilting day, I polished off two Jane blocks, and did another a week later. I also got moving on some other projects, and - woohoo! - the quilting mojo is back! Here's what I have for blocks so far:

Dean Jane progress
Not a lot, just sixteen blocks, but I really like the colors and as long as I keep in mind that this is a (VERY) long term project, I think I'll stay on track. So... thanks for the inspiration, and the opportunity to share my Jane journey with you!

F-3 Sweet and Simple!

I'm so pleased to be a part of this blog and really think that it will help me to push on to complete my top. I can't believe that some of you have already finished one and are working on another! I have nicknamed mine as "Crazy Jane" She will be a blue and white quilt, and I am trying to use a different fabric in each block. That is quite a challenge, so to help organize and identify all the different fabrics I am putting each row in a baggie with a card which I sew a swatch from each block onto as I make them.

I started this crazy adventure in January of 2004, and am a bit over a quarter finished. I've decided that I want to finish my top by my birthday in August 2012, so need to make at least 4 blocks a week to accomplish that. I've been really doing well for the last month, but it looks like I'm going to be challenged to do as much for the next few weeks as I have a lot of other things I need to work on - I do alterations, as well as special order sewing and quilting and have had a lot of work come in lately (not that I am complaining!).

I have finished rows A-D and am mid-way through E as well as having done some of the more simple blocks here and there. Tonight I went through the book to find a quick one, and settled on F-3. So sweet and simple, just a snowball block in the center and 4 triangles for the corner pieces. Plus that, no odd measurements - those seem to be my downfall. I was really happy to find a good block for this pretty fabric - it really was a perfect fit to put the wintery fabric in a snowball.

I am so much enjoying seeing everyone else's blocks - who knows, maybe I'll be tempted to make another version after I finish this one!
